HIFA comedy festival is back

The HIFA Comedy festival is back with an exciting lineup according to trailblazing comedian Carl Joshua Ncube. This is is the 4th time the comedian has produced stand up comedy shows at HIFA and explains that this year's lineup is about positioning Zimbabwe stand up comedy on a global stage. The lineup includes comedians with television credits on some of the top media platforms in the world.

The countries represented are Malaysia, South Africa, Uganda and Zimbabwe. According to NCUBE the comedians coming to Zimbabwe have two roles firstly to make people laugh but also give insight into what it is like to be on platforms like NETFLIX, performing in SOLD OUT ARENAS and navigating the broadcasting space in South Africa. The comics are amazing but we also need to position ourselves as a country on international media platforms to grow the comics and also the demand for comedy specials across the continent.

This year HIFA has a 6-day comedy program produced and directed by Carl Joshua Ncube will feature Kavin Jay from Malaysia, Salvado from Uganda and Nqoba Ngcobo from South Africa. This year Carl also launches a project called Girls Killing It which seeks to create an environment to identify and grow female stand up comedians in Zimbabwe. Carl mentions that female African stand-up comedians are super talented and get paid so well but there is, unfortunately, a very small number of them.

The comedy program will kick off on the 1st of May with an ensemble show (which features many comedians) then followed by one-man shows of the international comedians including Carl and finally the cast of females identified and trained by Carl to close off the comedy section of HIFA on the 6th of May.

Feef good Africa

The launch of the stand up comedy program begins with Carl Joshua Ncube introducing some of his friends in an ensemble show with Kavin Jay from Malaysia, Nqoba Ngcobo from South Africa. This comedy show will introduce audiences to some of the talent coming out to perform at HIFA.

Salvado

All the way from Uganda comes Salvado Idringi a jaggernaut of African comedy comes to Zimbabwe for the very first time to tell you the rib cracking story of a village called OMBOKOLO. This amazing comedian has performed in sold out arenas like the Hammersmith Apologetics's and even more impressive Wembley Arena.

Kavin Jay

Fresh from his first ever NETFLIX Special EVERYBODY CALM DOWN is the stand up comedy genius of Kavin Jay from Malaysia. This inciteful observant and terribly honest comic is set to light up harare with a very relatable and international brand of stand up comedy did we mention he has just come off the recording of his NETFLIX special? We did? Well it is SPECIAL!!!!

Nqoba Ngcobo

Zimbabwe will this year welcome the talented comedian with the hardest name to pronounce Nqoba Ngcobo will be right at home in Zimbabwe with his razor sharp wit, politically incorrect depictions of Africa and rib cracking comedy set to have you laughing your A@#$ off late in the night in Harare. Come through to get a taste of South Africa, Zimbabwe and the world in an awesome set of jokes.

Carl Joshua Ncube

This is the year he turns 39 and Carl Joshua Ncube is super frustrated that he is not old enough to run for PRESIDENT and will be delivering the MANIFESTO that never was in this rib cracking and direct take on the last days of Robert Mugabe and the advent of the bullet trains and many other exciting political promises the 115 political candidates are giving the electorate because after all WE COUNT!!!!

Girls killing it

Carl Joshua Ncube attempts to present an all female lineup of stand up comedy in an open mic show. Carl will be working behind the scenes to give a new crop of comedians coaching on being stand up comedians and showcasing it on one night. Come and witness the future of comedy.
