GOVERNMENT has deported five foreigners who were arrested after violating the country's immigration laws.

The foreigners are from the United States, Britain, Egypt, China and Nigeria.

Their deportation came after the Immigration Department tightened its surveillance and monitoring of immigrants suspected to be engaged in activities contrary to their visits.

"The Department of Immigration has remained relentless in ensuring that foreign nationals visiting Zimbabwe comply with the country's immigration laws.

"Whilst Zimbabwe remains open for business, those inclined on seeking to abuse the system continue to be weeded out," the Immigration Department said in a statement.

Pearl Patricia Allen, 49, a British national was arrested in Harare's central business district after she was found working for Global BP Solutions LLC whilst on a holiday visa.

After  being convicted and sentenced to a fine of $200 or 20 days' imprisonment on charges of violating conditions of her immigration status and working without a permit, Allen was deported back to the United Kingdom.

An American national with Irish and Nigerian passports was also prosecuted on charges of entering and remaining in Zimbabwe without a permit.

Okoli Sean Edward Ikem,32, together with a Nigerian national Michael Chibukoh Chukwukelu,38, were deported to the United States of America (USA) after an operation to flush out illegal immigrants.

Two Chinese nationals, Wang Jinfan- female,35 and Xu Penglai-male,36, were also apprehended by the department's Compliance Unit in Vainona during the same operations.

"The two had also converted a garage at the premises to become a backyard shop with grocery items targeting Chinese buyers. Their permits were cancelled and subsequently deported back to China," the Immigration Department said.

It further said it had also deported an Egyptian national, Hussameldin Ahmed Ali Ardelkader Elshikh,28, who was arrested for illegally operating a grocery shop in Svosve, Marondera.

"Investigations established that he attempted to secure residence in the country by entering into a marriage of convenience with a Zimbabwe citizen in 2019," it added.
