Suspected gold panners in the Insiza area are alleged to have cause uncontrollable veld fire, which has destroyed vast area of the Epoch mine area in the district.

A source from the area said the area surrounding Epoch mine in Insiza district is being destroy by veld fires but nothing is being done to contain the fire, which is still ravaging the area.

"Now it is day 3 and it is still going on. Hundreds of hectares of land has been destroyed but no action has been taken now," said the source from the area.

"The area is rich in minerals and this attracted a lot of illegal miners who i am suspecting for the cause of the veld fire."

Another source said the panners might have been trying to clear the bush around the area they wanted to use censors to prospect for gold and the fire got out of hand
