MDC-T legislator for Harare west, Jessie Fungayi Majome has said people in her constituency continue to experience intimidation during the current on going registration exercise as Zanu PF makes efforts to cow people to vote for it in the 2018 elections.

"I spent a fruitful and inspiring Saturday and in Mt. Darwin West, Dotito and Pfura to be precise, on MDC T party duty of supporting our party team's voter registration drive. Our District Chairman Chambe who sheltered 67 refugees in the 2008 presidential run off terror and his team are a great inspiration. They are not cowed by past and present intimidation. They are registering to vote and mobilizing others register to vote for change - for a new and better Zimbabwe," Majome said.

"I learnt that the major problems they encounter are difficulty of obtaining national IDs especially for the young as Mt Darwin issuing centre is crowded and prefers Zanu PF supporters referred by a partisan councillor. The same councillor is using the voter registration process to intimidate potential voters by ordering them to register as the registration and give him their registration card's serial number as it will be used to determine who will get food and other government hand outs."

She said some Zanu PF officials are threatening potential voters by lying to them that the biometric voter registration photography is a means to monitor who they vote for.

"Rampant intimidation of them as opposition supporters by traditional leaders despite the Constitution prohibiting that. The 2008 gangs that terrorized them are still roaming free," she said.

"Lack of transport causing them to walk long distances that can be tens of kilometers for party work. I was encouraged to see young people eager for political change, proving that not all youths are fooled by the waving of trinkets and crumbs at Zanu PF 'youth interface' rallies. I will be forwarding to ZEC complaints about the voter registration intimidation. I also hope to help the survivors of political violence in 2008 get justice. Let's register to vote, for our own sake and for the silenced millions."
