Zimbabwe coup stories, 'fake news'?
Published: 14 November 2017 (503 Views)
Harare based human rights defender Patson Dzamara has said despite rumours on social media that the military has taken over the city of Harare, its business as usual.

Dzamara twitter this evening: "I am in Harare CBD & It's business as usual. Let us spread accurate stories. But ngavabayane stereki. They are all criminals...all of them."

Prof Jonathan Moyo‏ said, "Fake news by any other name or any other scheme for any purpose or wish is just fake news!"

eNCA is quoting sources in Harare as saying that the visibility of army tanks is an indication that this is a "show of force" by the Zimbabwean army and not a coup, as yet.

@NMkapikoh said, "#Zimbabwe On location Harare CBD, situation on the ground is tense but calm. Rumors circulating on Social media that the army has taken over is false & meant to cause unnecessary panic to the public #Twimbos"

Award-winning journalist Elias Mambo said, "Shocking how this coup fake news is travelling so fast...relax people we are not yet there and we don't want that either..We want peace."

Talks of a coup taking place is an indication that Zimbabweans want Mugabe gone....an opportunity to let him know its time.

Doug Coltart who tweeted a video of army trucks wrote, "N.B. I have now established that this video is an OLD video and is NOT from today."

However, Evelyn Tremble‏ @DrumChronicles had a tweet, "#Zimbabwe Harare military armoured vehicles block road to presidential guard barracks" which had today's date.
