National People's Party spokesperson Methuseli Moyo has said Robert Mugabe has since been disqualified from contesting 2018 elections and MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai is likely to be missing on the ballot papers considering his deteriorating health.

"The removal of Mugabe changed things within and outside Zanu PF. Similarly, the retirement of Tsvangirai will change things within and outside MDC-T and the MDC Alliance. Mugabe and Tsvangirai have been the dorminant contenders for state house for the past three elections," Moyo said.

"Most likely, both will be missing from the ballot paper for the first time since (1980 for Mugabe) and since 2002 for Tsvangirai. 2018 elections are indeed a new era in terms of personalities contesting for state power. Anyone therefore who imagines that Zanu is as it was, and that MDC T will be as it was, need to rethink again."

He said  Zanu PF without Mugabe is unchattered waters, so is MDC T without Tsvangirai.

"There are fissures, big ones for that matter on both sides. The PRC fronted by Dr JTR Mujuru is watching quietly on the wings. We are indeed in a new era of mutliparty, and not two party democracy. It is game on. We might have a real election in a long time. And no winner. In that case, the people and democracy would have won. Absolute or even simple majority can be dangerous in Africa. Power must be shared," he said.
