Zanu-PF running scared in Mberengwa

Zanu-PF running scared in Mberengwa

A Political commentator Innocent Shumba has said the ruling Zanu PF is now running scared as the election time draws closer considering the fact that quite a reliable number of voters have registered to vote.

He said the first Biometric Voter Registration outreach registered 67803 voters in the four constituencies of Mberengwa District thus amounting to an average of 16951 voters per constituency.

"What is worrisome is that such voters were not necessarily from areas Zanu pf recorded high numbers in 2013 elections. We are also aware that many people who voted in Mberengwa in 2013 were Zupco bused from areas outside Mberengwa. It is within this context that Zanu is running scared and has engaged a high gear in intimidating people to bring their voter registration slips where serial numbers are recorded by traditional leaders and Zanu pf local leadership," said Shumba.

"We however encourage MDC supporters to sharpen their instruments of democratic combat by - refusing to attend meetings where voter registration slips are subject of discussion - walking away from meetings called by traditional leaders if they turn into Zanu pf meetings-telling all and sundry that there in nothing on the voter registration slip that would link the voter to the slip, that casting of votes is by secret ballot which is not traceable to the person who casts the vote, most importantly we don't eat threats. We have nothing to fear except fear itself." He said at any rate it is better to die on democratic feet than to die on their knees.

"We certainly need to summon all our energy to encourage those who have not yet registered to take advantage of BVR mop up operation and register to vote. We look forward at surpassing 18000 in each of the four constituencies of Mberengwa. 2018 chakachaya kuMberengwa, Save chete chete," he said.

"The really winds of change are blowing in Mberengwa North, West, South and East. No amount of force or brutality can stop an idea whose time is up. The time is now, and now is the time for real change and development in Mberengwa."
