Fifteen young innovators have been awarded with US$ 5 000 grant each under the Green Innovation Hub (GIHUB) phase-two, in Hatare recently, for the implementation of their innovative ideas.

There were 20 successful applicants who went through an intensive boot camp training that focused on the core skills on how to enhance, grow  and nurture businesses and all received certificates of completion.

Out of 20, only 15 qualified to get financial support and among the 15 include Takunda Chingonzo who took the first position, Kudakwashe Dhliwayo, Chipo Chikomo and Tariro Madamba.

Permanent Secretary for Ministry of Youth , Sport, Arts and Recreation Mr. Prince Mupazviho said he was humbled by the 15 finalists .

''Today we recognise and celebrate the 15 young innovators whose green innovations were considered a cut above the rest and these innovations are in various sectors which include  sustainable agriculture, renewable energy and efficiency, water, sanitation and health and waste management among others," said Mupazviho.

Mupazviho urged all the winners to participate in conserving the environment while simultaneously creating sustainable livelihoods as young entrepreneurs.

"The need for sustainable use of natural resources is clearly articulated in the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number 8 that calls for promotion of inclusive and sustainable economic growth, employment and decent work for all," he said.

GIHUB is an incubation space which seeks to ignite change and unlock the potential of young people in contributing to sustainable development through new ideas.

It was founded by Development  Cooperation Agency and has 3 components, which include green schools, green jobs and green innovations and those components are implemented by GIHUB partners such as Action 24 and Boost Fellowship.
