A Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) activist Stewart Rupiya was reportedly assaulted by members of the Zimbabwe National Army and subsequently kidnapped on Independence Day in Bindura.

Eye witness allege Rupiya was kidnapped while crying for help saying he was going to be killed the Dzamara way and he had told Heal Zimbabwe about his life being in danger but to no avail.

"The activist was assaulted around 3pm on independence and he was then forced into a military ambulance while crying for help, we watched him helpless as he said they are going to kill me like what they did to Dzamara, l texted Heal Zimbabwe but they failed to assist, said the source.

Mashonaland Central MDCT Chairman Mr George Gwarada confirmed the incident but said he was yet to get finer details.

"I only heard about this late yesterday evening on my way from ward 28 in Mvurwi from our councillor Shynet Chinderendere, will send my team to find out what really happened and revert back to you with details," said Gwarada.

Efforts to contact Director Army Public Relations Lieutenant - Colonel Aphios Makotore were futile.

Apparently, the party leadership reported Rupiya missing at Bindura police but were told to relax as they believed he would return.
